Regulate to Communicate: Somatic Practices to Heal in Connection
w/ Peter A Levine, PhD & Neil Sattin
3-HOUR ONLINE Workshop - Live & Recorded
Open to Public and Professionals
Nearly every aspect of our lives involves some sort of communication and relationship. While some things are as easy to discuss as today’s weather, it’s much more common that our efforts to communicate run into the brick wall of an activated nervous system. As soon as your nervous system senses anything it perceives as danger, your inner resources shift to survival strategies and away from the higher functions that allow you to be resourced in collaboration.
Put more simply, if you have anything to communicate that’s stressful or challenging, your nervous system can easily take over and prevent you from having the conversation you wanted to have. Instead, you get into an argument, or one person shuts down, or avoids the connection altogether. Becoming dysregulated can make “how you would prefer to be” in those situations almost impossible.
In a therapeutic setting, this tendency can feel like a lightning-fast, unexpected rupture with a client. Or if you hold space for couples, you might see a conflict quickly spiral into patterns of defensiveness, attacking, overwhelm, and shame, despite many sessions of psycho-education.
The presence of trauma (both resolved and unresolved) only accentuates this phenomenon, as implicit memories evoked by stress or challenging communication make it even easier to react when the stakes are high.
Our upcoming live workshop, Regulate to Communicate, gives you a path forward.
Join Dr. Levine and Neil Sattin to learn and experience a new framework for communication that will help you (and your clients) connect in times of uncertainty or stress. Whether you are a practitioner or someone with important things to communicate about, this workshop will help you understand precisely why communication goes wrong - and give you practices to facilitate a healing exchange.
This workshop will include practical instruction in Neil Sattin's “Regulate to Communicate” framework, plus regulation practices and a live demonstration by Dr. Levine. By the end of the three hours, you will have a solid foundation for stepping into any communication challenge—personal, professional, or political—with tools to keep yourself grounded, resourceful, and connected.
This is a unique opportunity to learn directly from Dr. Levine, one of the pioneers of body-based trauma healing work, alongside relationship expert Neil Sattin.
By participating in this workshop, you will:
Understand the hidden purpose of any type of communication - and how to leverage this purpose in your interactions with others
Recognize the warning signs of communication gone wrong, and identify the best strategy for bringing things back into balance
Experience body-based practices, facilitated by Dr. Levine to help you hear the inner wisdom, safely experience nervous system dysregulation, and discover tools to help you come back into balance
Know how to salvage communication when it goes amiss
Utilize the tools to help others in triggered moments, diminishing the risk of making things worse
Get familiar with the pathway to repair, both within and with others
